About the event
This free webinar is for workers from local councils, charities, service providers and organisations supporting asylum seekers and refugees, especially organisations looking after people arriving from Ukraine. Find out how North London Music Therapy CIC's service can provide groups specifically tailored to supporting people who have experienced acute and chronic trauma.
As an organisation, NLMT have run music therapy groups in collaboration with organisations working with asylum seekers, refugees and people trafficked into the UK. We also provide training in how to work with those experiencing trauma, and an introduction to Psychological First Aid. We understand the level of support needed to enable music therapy groups to take place regularly, but we have also seen first-hand the power of music to improve the mental health and quality of life in people dealing with extremely challenging personal situations.
Join NLMT's Director Marianne Rizkallah who will take you through a practical series of strategies to help you set up musical mental health support within your organisation and how a collaborative music therapy service could work. We'll also think together how we can all integrate music into our everyday, supporting mental health and wellbeing. Find out:
- What music therapy is
- How music helps patients who have experienced significant trauma
- What music therapy groups look and sound like, with examples from sessions
- The latest evidence for music therapy, and support from NLMT's own data as part of our flagship projects
- How to access music therapy groups for your local community
Based in North London, NLMT works across London using music as part of therapy for people of all ages with mental health concerns such as stress, anxiety or depression. We work with people experiencing trauma, and have set up collaborative work with organisations supporting refugees and asylum seekers. We set up new remote music therapy services during the pandemic, training others in how to carry out this work. Our Phone Support Service, offering acute support for NHS key workers during lockdown, was nominated for an Advancing Health ESTEEM Award for the speed and quality of our service.
